Timeless: 60 Years of Mercedes-Benz SL

The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL is to be launched in the spring of 2012. From Tuesday, 24 January 2012, the Mercedes-Benz Museum is dedicating a special exhibition to this legendary model series. Under the title "Timeless -- 60 years of the Mercedes-Benz SL", all the SL models of the past 60 years will be on show -- for the first time all together in the same room. SL -- only very few abbreviations have the power to call forth such passion in automotive enthusiasts as the SL model series from Mercedes-Benz. SL stands for six decades of sportiness and aesthetic appeal. What began in 1952 with the 300 SL racing car (W 194 series) and grew into a legend in the years that followed, is to be continued into the future with the market introduction of the new SL (R 231) in the spring of 2012. It sets a further highlight in the fascinating history of all the SLs. The special exhibition "Timeless -- 60 years of the Mercedes-Benz SL" gives this special Mercedes-Benz model series an adequate stage in its anniversary year: in Room Collection 5 visitors will be able to see interesting items, information and anecdotes -- apart from the vehicles on show. From the 300 SL (W 194), legendary winner of the 1952 Carrera Panamericana, to US astronaut David R. Scott's 1959 190 SL (W 121), and the 2001 Formula 1 safety car, the SL 55 AMG (R 230): visitors can look forward to a seamless presentation of the entire SL family. 2012 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG (HD)

The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is now even more powerful and efficient. As part of the "AMG Performance 2015" model strategy, the high-performance E-Class now features the new 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine. Familiar from the 2012 CLS63 AMG this new engine can produce either 518 hp or 550 hp, together with an impressive reduction in fuel consumption - 22 percent less based on the European driving cycle. Also responsible for improved fuel economy is the newly developed electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering system which only draws power during steering wheel movements. The 2012MY E63 AMG goes on-sale in the US in the Fall of 2011. This eight-cylinder powerhouse, designated internally as the M157, boasts a combination of innovative high-tech components such as spray-guided direct gasoline injection with piezo injectors, a full aluminum crankcase, four-valve technology with camshaft adjustment, air/water intercooling, generator management and an Eco Stop/Start system. With a displacement of 5461 cc the eight-cylinder engine develops a peak output of 518 hp and torque of 516 lb-ft. In conjunction with the optional AMG Performance Package, these figures increase to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft. Both variants of the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG achieve exceptional performance: acceleration from zero to 60 mph takes 4.4 and 4.3 seconds respectively and the top speed is 155 mph or 186 mph with the AMG Performance Package (electronically limited).
